I had finally come to the realization that my current, and original performance dog
was getting older. I also realized that if I didn’t start training a new dog, I would
not be competing down the road. Finding the right dog was extremely important. Aiden
is not a “dog’s dog” and it had always been just Aiden and I training, trialing,
and road tripping together.
Because Aiden is a rescue, it was important to me to adopt a dog who also really
needed a home. I searched Petfinder, local shelters, and breed rescues. No luck.
Finally, some friends of mine mentioned a breeder who recently had one of her puppies
returned after 14 months. Can you imagine? Again, Aiden and I road tripped, this
time to meet Arrow. He was gorgeous, though shy. He was polite, friendly, and respectful
to Aiden. And, to my surprise, Aiden seemed to like him. That’s really what mattered.
After a year in our family, Arrow has exceeded my wildest expectations. Not only
is he a loving, well mannered bc with an “off switch,” but he is so focused, so driven,
so smart. And he LOVES to work. He is quickly becoming an amazing agility dog, a
lightening fast flyball dog, and even recently earned a “Q” in his first herding
trial. Arrow couldn’t have been a more perfect fit for our family.
